Valarie Davis

Valarie is a mixed-media artist inspired by the relationships between cultures, how people are viewed in our society, race, and socioeconomics. She works to convey to the viewer that regardless of one’s ideologies, race, culture, and financial status, we all come into life the same and leave the same.

Valarie wants the viewer to understand that due to circumstances beyond our control, our stories may differ from place to place. Her works of art depict these various stories that hopefully make us all more understanding, tolerant, and less fearful of each other.

She uses paint and clay to illustrate the variety of topics that are dear to her experiences and values.

Valarie received a BFA from the College for Creative Studies (CCS), and has studied ceramics and sculpturing abroad in Florence, Italy. For over twenty years, she has worked as an automotive clay sculptor.

Gilda Snowden 1954 – 2014
Detroit Repertory Gallery
1987 – 2014 Curator

Gilda left us September 9, 2014. We were shocked and heartbroken. We lost a great Detroit Artist and a close friend of the Rep. She curated the Repertory Lobby Gallery into a prominent and important part of the Metropolitan Detroit visual artist community. As a token of profound respect the Repertory Gallery will henceforth be known as: The Gilda Snowden Gallery.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre Gilda Snowden Gallery is an alternative exhibition space for emerging and mid-career artists of the Metropolitan Detroit area. Space is given for one-person, two-person, or group theme shows of two-dimensional works of art. A new exhibit of original paintings and/or photographs is hung for each of the plays.

Michigan artists submit their portfolios. When chosen, their works are exhibited and sold during the run of each DRT production. Original paintings and photographs are displayed in the lobby of the Repertory throughout the DRT’s season. The Rep collects no commission.

If you’re interested in having your artwork displayed in the Gilda Gallery, please visit intshows.com/rep and fill out the form.

Please consider signing up for our newsletter and checking the box that says Gilda Gallery to get news about the gallery.
